November 6th, MISSION 182 - Third Day of Simmulation in MDRS

Report Author: Commander Julio Rezende.

I Wake up very early in MDRS, at 4h40m, Hanksville time. I feel how the cold can be very stressful. It is 4 degrees Celsius or 39 F.

I believe, I’m connected with Brazilian time with 4 more hours, compared with Utah Time,  than I am minded to wake early.
So… I decide to enjoy the time here to update the first two days reports.

Early I look my e-mail box and saw a lot of messages  remembering me about the world event that will is starting today: COP 23. COP23 is the informal name for the 23rd Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

The Climate Change Conference this year (COP23, from 6 to 17 November) will present together many nations to evaluate the implementation of the Paris Agreement and update new guidelines to established specific actions and targets for reducing greenhouse gases emissions, mitigating and adapting to the effects of climate change and adaptation efforts in developing countries.

What COP 23 is related with We are doing here in MDRS and more specifically with my research?

I consider that some achievements in MDRS would be considered to be applied to communities affected by climate change, as I can be seen in the countryside of Brazilian Northeast suffering the effects of 7 years of scarcity of rain and the decay of water reservoirs.

My research is a invitation about the necessity of a strategic view about how space science can help to solve daily problems, been more specifically  with climate affected areas.

Here are some moments of our schedule today:

7h30m: I started to prepare the coffee. The beautiful sun outside is very inviting. A beautiful sunrise gives us a warm good morning.

9 AM: We had a meeting with Shannon about some guidelines for our Mars Simulation. We spend 2 hours reviewing all the elements related to the operation of MDRS.

12h: I started to prepare the lunch. I cooked a risotto of broccoli, cheese and spam, peas and Tostitos. I liked.:)

14h: We did our first ExtraVehicular Activities with the participation of the astronauts Atila, Brandon and Camila. They collected some samples of regolith. I did some movies from the MDRS. Here are some links about videos done today related to the Extravehicular Activities:

15h30m: the astronauts come back to research station.

16h: I started to prepare the action-research survey from my science investigation.

17h: I answered an e-mail about the visit of Brazilian TV Globo.

18h44m – I concluded my research survey to be applied with my crewmates. The main dimensions of my survey are:
- Motivation,
- Science,
- Personal sustainability,
- Mars learning,
- Sustainability and
- Science popularization.

18h52m - I just created a Blog related to our mission:
and our Hashtag for our post in Twitter and Facebook:
#Mars182

19h – CapComm, presenting this following report.

The relationship between the crewmates is very pleasant and the internet in Mars is extremely hard to send some contents produced here, in Mars.
